You've got a story in your head. Maybe it's been sitting there for years, or maybe your child said something last Tuesday that made you think "that would make a great book." Either way, you want to actually write the thing . . . but picture books are weirdly hard. This class will help you go from idea to finished manuscript. We'll cover what makes picture books tick: why they're structured the way they are, how to write for kids without boring the parents to tears, and how to fit a whole emotional arc into 32 pages. You'll learn to write openings that hook, endings that stick, and middles that keep the pages turning. We'll do writing exercises in class, but you'll also be expected to write at home. This isn't a theory class—it's about getting your manuscript done. By week four, you'll have a complete draft ready for whatever comes next: revisions, an illustrator, an editor, or just sharing it with your kids. Taught by Alina Loux, multiple award-winner author/illustrator of The Toothbrush Circus, If You Were the Moon, My Love, and May You Always Find Wonder. Alina has been nominated as Best Local Author in the Best of Madison awards 3x, is the owner of Little Story Squad, and teaches writing and publishing at Madison College. Bring your idea and a laptop (or a pencil and paper). Also bring your tolerance for writing sloppy first drafts, because that's how every good book starts. $275 | $250 early bird price
