Details
Ages 17+. Starting from a photo of themselves, participants will explore color, identity, and self-expression while creating their own pop art-inspired self-portraits in a two-part self-portrait painting class with Madison artist Brooklyn Doby. Brooklyn is most known for her abstract, pop art-style portraits in which she accentuates beauty by breaking up skin tones, using a vibrant color palette, and incorporating 3D elements. Participants will learn color mixing, blending techniques, and how to wire a canvas. During this class, we'll also have loose, open dialogue around art therapy and self-expression. This is designed to be a safe space, a fun experience, and an exploration of all the features that are uniquely “You.” -Please submit a photo of yourself to be pre-drawn on canvas so it is prepared upon your arrival: b.denae.artistry@gmail.com If you are interested in this class but cost is holding you back, we offer tuition assistance scholarships! She is a painter, muralist, and Edgewood College Art Therapy graduate. She is entering her 6th year as a full-time artist participating in vendor events and fine art shows across Wisconsin. Brooklyn is passionate about the role of art in movements for liberation. Her work reflects her love for acrylic paint, portraits, and abstracts of Black beauty. Brooklyn believes that the most impactful component about art making is that it can be shared amongst others -- both the product and the process.
